I’ve lived in and around Charlotte, NC since 1998. I have a passion for Learning and Development and have been in that sector of the hospitality industry for the last 5 years.
My introduction to golf started with a passion for disc golf. Charlotte has one of the better-established disc golf scenes and a very active disc golf community. Marie and I would play every day after work, and two to three times on the weekends. We had so much fun with it! Disc golf paved the way for our interest in golf. The strategic and mental challenges golf presents, give me a rush like no other.
I started golfing after I started a new job in 2017. I was previously in restaurant operations or worked remotely when I moved into corporate roles, so I never had experience going to an office every day. I searched for a common thread to connect with people to build relationships. Most played golf! They talked about their time on the course, how much fun they had, how much they were able to get done out there. That was enough for me. I was hooked and I hadn’t even picked up a club!
Being in Learning and Development, I’m always interested in decreasing the amount of time it takes someone to become proficient at something, so I wanted to break the mold and prove to myself and others that it doesn’t take years and years and years to become proficient at golf, and you can enjoy the game at any skill level.
I resolved to apply accelerated learning techniques and get better, quicker. Through countless hours of deliberate practice at the range and on the course, and lessons, I established an 18 handicap in my first year playing golf and have since dropped it even lower. It doesn’t take years and years to become proficient like some people will have you believe. It takes deliberate and intentional practice.
This site is for anyone who can use some down-to-earth, no-nonsense, easily-digestible information about golf and golf lifestyle. I take a balanced, frugal, and thoughtful approach to my life and golf is no different – so if any of the aforementioned adjectives describe your style, there might be something in here you can use.
One of the reasons we started Fairways and Cabbage is to connect with people who love the game. We love meeting new people! If you’re in the Charlotte area, let’s get out and play.
